October Use It All - On a Positive Note

October Use It All Challenge

Sometimes photos are precious no matter the quality.

These photos of my late daughter are screenshots of selfies we found on her phone. They were small, only 720x1280, so I decided to use them at a matching size across the layout. Keeping them small and consistent helped even out the differences in quality, while still making them the clear focus of the page.

To keep the attention where I wanted it, I resized some of the papers to as small as 1100x1100. The word paper works especially well this way because the words still jump out of the background circle without losing the impact of the pattern. The plaid also holds its own beautifully even at a much smaller scale.

I used the frame as a mat for one of the photos, and the patterned purple paper became both the photo matting and the outer background.

The challenge sampler did not include a white cardstock, so I created the look I wanted instead. I used the Eyedropper Tool to choose a cream color for the background. Then I desaturated the green cardstock, clipped it to the cream background layer, and lowered the opacity until just enough of the cardstock texture showed through.

Little adjustments like resizing papers, recoloring cardstock, and using elements in unexpected ways can help stretch a sampler quite a bit while still keeping the layout cohesive.

This month we’re working with the On a Positive Note Sampler, a bright and cheerful mix made for documenting good days, encouraging moments, little wins, fresh starts, happy thoughts, and the memories that deserve an extra dose of optimism.

Check out the MyMemories forum for all the challenge details:

If you like the sampler, the full On a Positive Note Collection is only $5.00 for the month of October.

Create your own layout using the On a Positive Note Sampler and share your finished page in the MyMemories forum. I’d love to see what you create with it.
