Hero Papers, Meet Mask - Use It All Challenge

MyMemories Use It All Challenge – February 2026

This month’s Use It All challenge was such a fun one — especially because it includes a few “hero” papers that are absolutely gorgeous, but can sometimes feel a little bold behind a photo.

In my last post (2/4), I shared one of my favorite tricks: resize the hero paper smaller to shrink the pattern and make it easier to use.

For this layout, I’m showing another easy way to use those hero papers without letting them take over the page:

Hero paper, meet mask

I placed a mask behind my photo and let the hero paper peek through in a softer, more controlled way. The mask breaks up the pattern, adds texture and movement, and keeps the focus on the photo while still showing off the beautiful design.

Why this works so well

  • The mask softens busy patterns so they don’t overwhelm your photo.
  • White space gives everything room to breathe and keeps the page feeling clean.
  • It’s a great “use it all” solution because you can include every piece of the mini in a balanced way.

I love how this approach lets the papers shine and keeps the photo as the star of the page.
