Designer Tip by Happy Scrap Arts!

Using patterned papers on your layout with a mask or a shape.

Hi, I’m back with a third and last tip of how you can use patterned papers in your layouts without making the page looking to busy.
In this part I will let you see how to use this papers on you page by applying them to a mask or a shape.
This one is a little trickier maybe but I think it’s a real good way to use a patterned paper.

In the all new My Memories Suite 7 it is possible to use masks. You can of course use it on your photos, but using it on patterned papers is really a great way to embellish your pages. It’s very easy to do.

When you have your blank page, you go and click on embellishments, thank click on Add, and browse to your mask. Once you have found it on your hard disk and selected it, click ok and then click on close.
You will now see the black shape of the mask on your page.

Next step will be to add your paper.
In embellishments, choose photo, browse to your paper and select it, then click ok.  You will see your paper ending up in the mask.

It’s a great way of making a blending of the patterned paper into the solid paper, you can use a white background or a background with a matching colors. Light colors will give you the best effect.

You can do the same thing with a shape.
Click on shapes & lines and choose Add, in the window that opens you choose the shape you would like to use, then click add and close. You will see the shape on your page. Staying in shapes & lines now choose photo. Browse to the paper you want to use and click ok. The paper will show up in the shape you have chosen. Don’t forget to add some shadows to your shapes.

Here are some examples. On the first one I used a big mask and I used a patterned paper on it so that it covers a big part of the background. The color of the background comes back in the pattern of the paper. (This one is made with my collection Messy 2). On the second layout I used a mask that covers the entire length of the white background. It looks like if a large pencil applied some green and blue paint on the paper. (Made with my collection Create Art 1)

And this one made in MyMemories Suite 7

So now you have many ways of using all the patterned papers you have in stock. Ready to play around and try all of these ways to use the papers? I would love to see what you make. You can post your page on my facebook page .

I do have several masks collections in store, more available in store, take a look here:

happy scrapping to you all
